From March 15 to 17, 2023, the 6th Global Summit of Global Alliance of Disaster Research Institutes (GADRI for short) Summit was held at the Disaster Prevention Research Institute, Kyoto University (Japan). Research Fellows Ma Yaoming and Ma Weiqiang from the Land-air Interaction and Climate Effect Team and Research Fellow Bai Ling from the Collision Uplift and Impact Team of our institute were invited to attend as representatives of member units.
A total of 189 representatives from more than 30 countries and regions covering 5 continents attended the summit. During the summit, Research Fellows Ma Yaoming, Ma Weiqiang and Bai Ling gave academic lectures entitled "Comprehensive study of energy and water exchange process over the Tibetan Plateau: A review and perspective", "Introduction to the observational system of land-air interaction on the Tibetan Plateau and related results" and "Source processes associated with the 2021 glacier collapse in the Yarlung Tsangpo Grand Canyon, southeastern Tibetan Plateau", respectively.
The sub-venue of "New Challenges for Action by GADRI" was organized and presided over by Professor Tetsuya TAKEMI from the Disaster Prevention Research Institute, Kyoto University. Research Fellow Ma Weiqiang gave an invited lecture entitled "Introduction to the observational system of land-air interaction on the Tibetan Plateau and Disaster related work", and shared with the present experts the latest research achievements on land-air interaction process in Qinghai-Tibet Plateau and earthquake induced geological disasters. Professor Toshio KOIKE, a member of the Board of Directors of the GADRI and winner of the Friendship Award of the Chinese Government, was invited to attend the summit, and discussed the future cooperation intention with our experts attending the summit.
In the meantime, our publicity for talent recruitment also started smoothly. Participants looked up the exhibition boards and publicity materials set up in the main venue, and consulted the recruitment plans of various talent introduction and exchange projects such as "External Talent Plan" of the State Key Laboratory of Tibetan Plateau Earth System, Environment and Resources, "Overseas Fund Project" of National Natural Science Foundation of China, and "CAS President's International Fellowship Initiative" of Chinese Academy of Sciences. This time, our institute promoted our global recruitment plan for high-end talents overseas, which expanded new channels of publicity for recruitment for introducing overseas talents.
GADRI was established in line with the requirements of Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction 2015-2030 and at the call of the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction. It has important influence in the fields of global disaster research and international disaster risk reduction policies. The secretariat of GADRI is located in the Disaster Prevention Research Institute, Kyoto University, Japan. Up to now, GADRI has members from 52 countries around the world, with more than 200 institutions. Our institute became a member unit of GADRI in 2015, and carried out personnel exchange visits, joint scientific research and cooperation exchanges at different levels with the Disaster Prevention Research Institute, Kyoto University under the scientific cooperation framework agreement, achieving a series of important cooperative research achievements.
